Kids in a Candy Factory - 9/10/12

I took Harrison and Declan on an outing this morning to see how candy is made the old-fashioned way at Hammond's Candies!

"Hmmm, I think I might like this place."

While we waited for our tour to start, Declan and Harrison wasted no time checking out the candy. This is the 'Oops! Room' where they sell the imperfect (but still delicious) candy at great prices!

Declan immediately fell in love with this lollipop...

...so, Harrison found one for himself, too.

This is the live version of Candy Land! Definitely a kids' candy paradise filled with beautiful handmade candies in every variety you can imagine. Candy canes, lollipops, caramels, chocolate bars, ribbon candy, and anything else you can think of was probably there.

 "I'll take one of these..."

 "...and all of these!"

Candy makes a little kid so happy!

Harrison decided we needed a shopping bucket.

The wrappers came off of their lollipops the moment I paid for them...

...and Declan never let go of his until lunch!!

There were boxes of candy everywhere.

 Time for the tour.
We watched a really interesting video about how Hammond's candy has been handmade in Denver since 1920. The machinery they still use to make the ribbon candy dates back to the 1800's!

They were making candy cane trees today. Neat!!

On the way to the car there were a few stops to enjoy the lollipops.

This stop was literally right next to our car! They both plopped down simultaneously to do some more candy tasting.

This was bound to happen, don't you think?
